A pre-authorized hold is a common method that certain merchants use to charge their customers. Gas stations, car rental companies, hotels, and airlines are among the most common types of merchants who utilize authorization holds.
This is not intended to reflect a charge but is the standard practice to ensure there are enough funds to cover the purchase (and incidentals, where applicable) in your bank account. The correct charge will usually settle within a few hours of the purchase, however, it may sometimes take longer.
Please note: Relay cannot expedite the authorization hold expiry. Releasing the pre-authorized hold and settling the transaction is facilitated by the merchant and their payment processor.
We recommend reaching out to the merchant for any questions or concerns regarding a pre-authorized hold. If a merchant doesn't manually settle an authorization hold, it may take up to 30 days to be released automatically.
