Referring your clients to Relay

This article provides an overview of how Formation Company partners can refer their clients to Relay.

Things to know before referring a client

  • Effective April 29, 2024, Relay won’t process or approve new account applications submitted by (or on behalf of) clients using a Registered Agent address as their U.S. business address if the following is also true:
    • One or more business owners submit a non-U.S. address as their personal address; OR
  • One or more business owners use the same Registered Agent address as their personal address.
    • A document that verifies a provided U.S. business address will be requested from all non-U.S. resident business owners, and may also be required for business owners residing in the U.S.
    • Additional documentation, such as the business's Articles of Incorporation or Employer Identification Number verification letter, may be requested to support a client’s application. You, or your client, can upload these documents directly within Relay. 
    • You can view the statuses of client applications from the Partner Portal after they have been submitted for review. 
    • Once an application has been approved, you will no longer have access to the account. 

Using the Partner Portal

You can refer your clients using the Relay Partner Portal. When referring your clients, you can choose from one of the following options:

  • Invite the client to submit their application; or
  • Apply on the client's behalf.

How to invite your client to apply

  1. Sign in to your Relay account via desktop to access your Partner Portal.
  2. Click Add Client at the top-right corner of your screen.
  3. Enter the client's details.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Your client will receive an email invitation to complete their application and verify their identity. 

How to apply on your client’s behalf

  1. Sign in to your Relay account via desktop to access your Partner Portal.
  2. Click Add Client at the top-right corner of your screen.
  3. Click The advisor (me) as who will be filling out the application, then click Next.                           
  4. Enter the business owner’s personal information. If there are multiple business owners, you can add additional owners later. Once all fields are filled out, click Next.
  5. Enter the client's business information, then click Next.
  6. Confirm the client's card details and shipment information, then click Next.
  7. If applicable, provide the personal information of additional business owners, then click Next.
  8. Your client will then receive an email invitation to create a password, accept our Terms of Service, and verify their identity. 

A mistake was made on the application, can I edit or change the information?

If an application needs to be updated after it has been submitted, please ask the business owner to reach out to our Customer Experience team with specifics and we would be happy to help get them back on track! 

How long does it take for an application to be reviewed?

The application review process typically takes 1-3 business days. If our team has any further questions about your application, we will contact the business owner via email.

How long does my client have to accept the invitation to join Relay?

Your client has 30 days to accept the invitation. After 30 days, the link will expire and a new invitation will need to be sent. 

What happens if my client does not receive their invitation to join Relay?

If your client does not receive their invitation to join Relay, you can resend the invitation by clicking Resend beside their email address. Please double-check that there are no typos in the email address to which the invite is being sent.

Can I cancel an invitation?

Yes, to cancel an invitation simply click Cancel beside the client's email address and their invite will no longer be valid.
