Editing permission levels

This article explains how to edit permission levels for team members and advisors in your Relay account, including how to update account access when applicable.

Important: Only team members with Administrator permissions or advisors with Super Administrator permissions can update or manage other users’ access.


How to edit team member or advisor permissions in Relay

  1. Sign in to your Relay account .
  2. Go to the Team tab.
  3. If needed, select Team to manage employee permissions, or select Advisors to update accountant or bookkeeper access.
  4. Find the team member or advisor you want to update.
  5. Click Edit under the action bar.
  6. Select the user’s new permission level .
  7. If applicable, choose the checking and savings accounts this user should be able to access.
  8. Click Update permissions to apply your changes.

Frequently asked questions

Who can edit team member or advisor permissions in Relay?

Only users with Administrator permissions (for team members) or Super Administrator permissions (for advisors) can edit or manage other users’ access in Relay.

Why can’t I edit a team member’s permission level?

If the Edit option is unavailable, you likely do not have sufficient permissions. Make sure you are signed in as an Administrator or Super Administrator, and that the user you’re editing is not the only administrator on the account.

What’s the difference between a team member and an advisor in Relay?

Team members are typically internal employees, while advisors are external professionals such as accountants or bookkeepers. Each role has different permission options and access levels.

Can I limit a user’s access to specific bank accounts?

Yes. When editing a user’s permissions, you can select which checking and savings accounts they can access, depending on their assigned permission level.

Do permission changes take effect immediately?

Yes. Updates take effect immediately after you tap Save (mobile) or click Update permissions (web).

Can I downgrade or remove an administrator?

You can downgrade or remove an administrator as long as there is at least one other active administrator on the account. Relay requires a minimum of one administrator at all times.
