Filtering, Searching, and Sorting Bills in Relay

Relay's redesigned Bills product allows you to upload, manage, categorize, approve, and pay bills—whether they come from QuickBooks Online, Xero, or are uploaded directly into Relay. The filtering, searching, and sorting tools in the Bills tab help you stay on top of payables and keep everything organized, even as your volume increases.

This article walks through how to use these tools efficiently in Relay.

All plans can access and organize their bills—but approval rules and automation require a Grow or Scale plan.

Accessing Your Bills in Relay

  1. Sign in to your Relay account.
  2. From the navigation menu, go to Payments and click on the Bills tab.
  3. You’ll see a table of your bills, including those:
    • Uploaded manually
    • Sent to your Relay bills inbox
    • Synced from QuickBooks Online or Xero

Filtering Bills

Filtering helps narrow your view to specific sets of bills—such as only unpaid bills, or those due within the next 7 days.

To apply filters:

  1. Click the Filter button in the top-left corner of the bill table.
  2. Choose from the following filter categories:
    • Amount (e.g. greater than $1,000)
    • Invoice Date
    • Due Date
    • Status (e.g. Awaiting Approval, Scheduled)
  3. Select a qualifier (before, after, between) and enter your values.
  4. Click Apply.

To clear filters, return to the Filter menu and click Clear. Filters will stay applied until they’re removed manually.

Searching for Specific Bills

Need to find a specific bill quickly? Use the search tool to locate it by the payee or invoice number.

To search your bills:

  1. Click Search next to the Filter button.
  2. Enter a keyword—either the payee’s name or the invoice number (partial or full).
  3. Matching results will appear instantly.

Search works across all bills in your dashboard, regardless of whether they were imported or uploaded.

Sorting Bills

Sorting helps you organize your view by payee name, due date, amount, and more.

To sort your bills:

  1. In the bill table, click any column heading (e.g., Payee, Due Date, Amount).
  2. The first click sorts the column in ascending order (A–Z or lowest to highest).
  3. A second click sorts it in descending order (Z–A or highest to lowest).

You can use sorting in combination with filters and search to zero in on what matters most.
