This article is intended for accountants and bookkeeper customers with clients on Relay and contains instructions on how to upgrade a client's account to Relay Pro.
Please note: only advisors with Administrator or Super Administrator permissions can upgrade a client's account to Relay Pro on their behalf.
How to upgrade your clients to Relay Pro as an advisor
To upgrade a client to Relay Pro, you must ensure that you are signed into your firm's Partner Portal via desktop, and not a business or client account. Once logged in, please follow the below steps:
- Click on the three vertical dots at the far-right side of your client's business name.
- Click Upgrade to Relay Pro.
- You will now be taken to the Billing and plans page for your client. Click the Change Plan button at the top-right corner of the Current plan window.
- Click Upgrade at the top-right corner of the Relay Pro window.

You will now be prompted to select one of the two billing options for Relay Pro; you can either opt to pay for Relay Pro on your client's behalf, or ask the client to cover the costs on their end.
- If you choose to cover the cost associated with your client's monthly Relay Pro subscription, there will be a couple of additional steps to finalize the subscription setup. This includes choosing the Relay checking account you want the Relay Pro costs to be pulled from.
- If you choose to have the client cover the Relay Pro costs on their end, the client will receive an email invitation to subscribe to Relay Pro, with instructions on how to upgrade.
- After selecting the preferred billing option, click Done.
What if I don't see three vertical dots beside my client's account?
If you don't see the three vertical dots beside a client's business name in your Partner Portal, it is likely that you have not been invited to their account as an Administrator or Super Administrator.
In this case, you would need to request your client to adjust your permission level in order for you to upgrade to Relay Pro on their behalf. Otherwise, the client can upgrade to Relay Pro within their own account by following the steps outlined here.
Will my client receive a free trial?
Accountants and bookkeepers will not receive free trials of Relay Pro for their clients. If your client wishes to take advantage of our 14-day free trial, they will need to upgrade to Relay Pro within their own account by following the steps outlined here.
Can I get Relay Pro at a discounted rate for my clients?
