Receiving an international wire

With Relay, you can receive incoming international wire transfers into your Relay checking account using either the SWIFT network (USD + other currencies) or Local Network rails (EUR, GBP, CAD).

Before you receive your first international wire, you must activate receiving international wires. Start here: How to Activate Receiving International Wires

Before you start

Choose your receiving international wire deposit account

You can only designate one checking account as your international wire deposit account at a time. This setup is currently available on desktop.

Steps to choose your deposit account
  1. Sign in to your Relay account on desktop.
  2. Go to Accounts.
  3. Select Manage accounts.
  4. Click Receiving International Wire Account.
  5. Select the checking account you want wires deposited into.
  6. Click Save. You can change this later.

Get your receiving details (share these with your sender)

Your receiving details may differ depending on the currency and whether the sender is using Local Network rails or SWIFT. Always share the details shown in your Relay dashboard for the currency you’re receiving.

Where to find your international wire receiving details (desktop)
  1. Go to Accounts.
  2. Open the checking account you selected as your international wire deposit account.
  3. Click Details.
  4. Under Receive Money, click International Wires.
  5. Select the currency (USD, EUR, GBP, or CAD) and copy the details shown.

Important: If a non-USD wire is sent to USD-only details (or mismatched currency details), the payment may be returned to the sender.

Choose Local Network vs SWIFT

Which method should my sender use?
  • Local Network (EUR / GBP / CAD): Best when the sender can pay you using local rails in those currencies. Typically faster and avoids intermediary bank fees.
  • SWIFT (USD and other currencies): Used for USD, or when local rails aren’t available. Intermediary banks may deduct fees.

Receiving via Local Network (by currency)

Share the exact Local Network details from your Relay dashboard for the correct currency.

EUR (European Union) — Local Network details

What your payer typically needs:

  • Your business name (beneficiary)
  • Business physical address (no PO Boxes)
  • IBAN shown in your Relay account

Network: SEPA Credit Transfer (SCT); SEPA Instant (SCT Inst.)

Reference/memo: Ask the payer to include your company name and invoice/reference number (if applicable).

GBP (United Kingdom) — Local Network details

What your payer typically needs:

  • Your business name (beneficiary)
  • Business physical address
  • Sort code + Account number shown in your Relay account

Network: Faster Payments Service (FPS)

Reference/memo: Ask the payer to include your company name and invoice/reference number (if applicable).

CAD (Canada) — Local Network details

What your payer typically needs:

  • Your business name (beneficiary)
  • Business physical address
  • Institution (bank) number, transit (branch) number, and account number shown in your Relay account

Network: Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT)

Reference/memo: Ask the payer to include your company name and invoice/reference number (if applicable).

Receiving via SWIFT (USD & other currencies)

SWIFT details your sender may need

Share the SWIFT receiving details shown in your Relay dashboard. SWIFT may use intermediary banks, which can deduct fees.

  • Beneficiary: Your business name and physical address (no PO Boxes)
  • Beneficiary account: Account number / IBAN shown in your Relay SWIFT details
  • Beneficiary bank: SWIFT/BIC, bank name, and bank address shown in your Relay SWIFT details
  • Intermediary bank (if shown): Intermediary SWIFT/BIC, bank name, and address
  • Payment reference: Ask the sender to include your company name and invoice/reference number for reconciliation

Tracking, timelines, and fees

How long do incoming international wires take?

Delivery time depends on the sender’s bank, cutoffs, and whether the wire is sent via Local Network or SWIFT. Local Network transfers are typically faster than SWIFT, but timing can vary.

For general timing guidance, see: Transaction settlement and processing timelines

Are there fees to receive an international wire?

Relay typically does not charge a fee to receive international wires. However, SWIFT transfers may include fees deducted by intermediary or receiving banks. The sender’s bank can confirm what fees may apply.

Can I track an incoming international wire?

SWIFT (USD) wires can often be tracked using an MT103 (or similar) document provided by the sender’s bank.

Local Network (EUR/GBP/CAD) transfers typically can’t be tracked with an MT103. The sender should contact their bank to confirm status.

What happens if the sender uses the wrong details or currency?
  • If the sender uses the wrong currency details, the payment may be delayed or returned.
  • If the sender uses a PO Box for the beneficiary address, the transfer may be rejected by the sending or intermediary bank.
  • If the sender uses an ineligible beneficiary name, the transfer may be returned.

To prevent returns, always copy the exact receiving details from your Relay dashboard for the correct currency and method (Local vs SWIFT).

If you’re not seeing international wire receiving details in your account, you may need to complete activation first: How to Activate Receiving International Wires. If you’re unsure which details to share with your sender, contact Relay Support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to activate receiving international wires before I can receive one?

Yes. Receiving international wires requires activation. Follow: How to Activate Receiving International Wires .

Which currencies can I receive?

You can view the currently supported currencies here: Currencies available in Relay .

Should my sender use Local Network or SWIFT?

Use Local Network for EUR/GBP/CAD when the sender can pay using local rails. Use SWIFT for USD or when local rails aren’t available. Always share the exact details shown in your Relay dashboard for the selected currency and method.

Can I receive an international wire under my DBA name?

International wires can only be received under your business name or a Beneficial Owner name on file. For details, see: Which names can I receive payments under? .

Does Relay convert non-USD wires automatically?

Yes. Relay accounts hold funds in USD, so non-USD incoming wires are converted to USD after receipt.

How do I track an incoming international wire?

SWIFT wires can often be tracked using an MT103 (requested by the sender from their bank). Local Network transfers typically require the sender to check status with their bank.

Why was my international wire returned?

Common reasons include using the wrong currency details, missing/invalid beneficiary address (PO Box), beneficiary name not matching what Relay can accept, or missing intermediary bank details for SWIFT. Double-check your Relay dashboard details and have the sender resend using the correct method and currency.
