This article will walk you through the process of remotely depositing checks into your Relay account using the Relay mobile app.

How to deposit a check on the Relay app

  1. Open the Relay app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Deposit Check on the left-hand side of your screen.
  3. Select the checking account you want to deposit your check into.
  4. Enter the check amount. Please ensure that this amount is an exact match to what is printed on the check itself; amount mismatches may lead to your check deposit being returned.
  5. Capture photos of both the front and back of the check against a dark, solid background, ensuring all four corners are visible.
  6. Endorse the back of the check with your signature or your business name. Write "For mobile deposit only at Thread Bank" underneath the signature or business name.
  7. Enter the Payer's name. This is the name of the check issuer, usually printed at the top of the check.
  8. Add a Note/Memo.
  9. Tap Deposit.

Check deposit guidelines

To ensure a successful check deposit, please ensure to follow the guidelines listed below:

  • Hold the camera parallel to the check and align it within the guidelines on your phone.
  • Avoid using flash to maintain image quality.
  • Use a dark, consistent background without patterns or obvious textures.
  • Ensure optimal lighting with no shadows.
  • Lay the check as flat as possible without folds to prevent image distortion.

Please note: you must capture a picture of the physical check, as you can only deposit checks in your possession. Digital copies such as pictures of pictures, screenshots, or any other digital forms of checks are not accepted.

Check settlement timeline

Checks deposited with Relay have a typical settlement timeline of up to 7 business days. This timeline does not include weekends or holidays, and the cut-off time for check deposits is 5pm EST. If deposited after this time, the processing timeline will start the next business day.

Check deposit requirements

Relay can only deposit U.S. checks. All checks issued from banks outside of the U.S. or substitute checks will be returned.

Checks dated more than 6 months before the date of deposit will be returned. A new check from the payer will be required to successfully deposit funds.

Check deposits can only be received under the business name, the name of the beneficial owner(s) or any Doing Business As (DBA) name as it appears in Relay. If you have a DBA but have not yet added it to your Relay account, please contact our Customer Experience team to apply the DBA to your account so you can deposit your check!
