Relay makes it easy for small businesses to accept online card payments using our built-in Payment Requests and Invoices features. These tools are ideal for remote and service-based businesses that want to collect payments online using a secure, branded portal.
How Card Payments Work on Relay
When you send an invoice or payment request through Relay, you can choose to accept payment by credit card, debit card, ACH, wire transfer, or pay-by-bank. Your client or customer receives a secure link where they can enter their payment information, and funds are deposited directly into your Relay account.
This setup is perfect for:
- Freelancers or contractors who invoice clients
- Service-based businesses collecting payments online
- Small business owners who want to streamline receivables
Relay Is Not a POS System
While Relay supports online card payments through invoices and payment requests, it is not designed to replace a traditional point-of-sale (POS) system.
You cannot use Relay to:
- Swipe or tap cards in person
- Accept in-person retail payments
- Process card payments through a mobile card reader or physical terminal
If your business requires a physical POS solution, we recommend continuing to use a third-party merchant services provider that fits your needs.
Using Relay with Third-Party Payment Tools
You can still use Relay as your business bank account alongside your preferred merchant processor. For example, you might accept in-person payments using Stripe, Square, or Shopify and then link Relay to your merchant account for payouts and reconciliation.
