For your account security, your Relay checking accounts and cards have transaction limits set immediately after account opening. Limits apply to all payment types, including outgoing ACH, wire, and check payments. For your cards, limits will apply to card payments as well as incoming card transactions, such as card refunds from merchants.
To view your account limits, please see Viewing your account limits. If your limits are too low and your business requires more spending flexibility, you can request a transaction limit increase directly within your Relay account.
Setting custom card limits
When you create a debit card on Relay, you will have the option to set custom daily and monthly spending limits. If you choose not to set custom limits, Relay's default limits will be assigned to your card.
Important: opting out of setting custom spending limits does not mean your card spend is unlimited, or that there are no limits set. This simply means your card will be assigned our default limits, which you can read more about below.
If you didn't set custom card limits during card creation, you can still do so at any time! For instructions on editing your card spending limits, please see Editing your Relay card.
Default card limits
If you do not set custom limits during card creation, your card will be assigned our default transaction limits, as shown on the Transaction Limits page within your Relay account. To locate your default card limits, please follow the instructions outlined in this article.

My card payments are getting declined due to "exceeded limits". What do I do?
If your card limits are preventing you from making larger card purchases, please check to see whether you are spending within the daily/monthly limits assigned to that card.
If you've set custom limits on your card, you can check that card's limits by following the steps below:
- Sign in to your Relay account on your desktop.
- Navigate to the Cards tab.
-
Click on the card you're trying to use, then scroll down to view your custom limits.
- If your daily and monthly limits say "None", this means you haven't set custom limits and default limits have been applied to your card. For instructions on how to view your default card limits, please see Viewing your account limits.
If your default limits cannot effectively accommodate your business's card spending needs, you can request a limit increase by following the steps outlined here.
