Creating an Invoice in Relay

Relay makes it simple to create professional, branded invoices that help you get paid faster. Whether you're billing for services, products, or project-based work, this guide walks through each step of the invoice creation process in your Relay dashboard.


How to create an invoice

  1. Sign in to your Relay account.
  2. Go to Get Paid > Invoices From your Relay dashboard, click the Get Paid tab and select Invoices.
  3. Click “Create Invoice” This opens a blank invoice form where you can add all the details your client needs.
  4. Add contact details
    • Select an existing contact or create a new one
    • Enter the client’s name and email (required for sending)
  5. Set invoice details
    • Invoice number: Auto-generated or custom
    • Issue date: Defaults to today but can be changed
    • Due date: Set the payment deadline (same day, Net 15, Net 30, etc.)
  6. Add line items For each product or service:
    • Enter a description
    • Set quantity and unit price
    • Add optional taxes and discounts
  7. Attach files (optional)
    • Upload up to 5 documents (PDF, PNG, JPG, DOCX, max 25MB each)
    • Use this to include contracts, work samples, or terms of service
  8. Add a memo (optional)
    • Include a personalized note to your client (e.g. “Thanks for your business!”)
  9. Choose accepted payment methods
    • Credit/debit card
    • ACH transfer
    • Pay by Bank (Plaid-based bank debit)
    • Domestic wire transfer
  10. Select destination account
    • Choose which Relay account should receive the payment
  11. Preview your invoice
    • Click Preview Invoice to see exactly what your client will receive

Next steps

Once the invoice is ready, choose one of the following:

  • Create and send invoice: Relay sends it directly to your client via email with a payment link
  • Only create invoice: Save the invoice without sending it; use this if you want to export the PDF or send it manually
